Nowadays, software vendors are demanded to be highly flexible and be able to respond rapidly to (unforeseen) both technological and market developments. Generally, software vendors are unaware of the performance, usage and feedback of their software in the field. Frequently, no (or insatisfying) answers are found on the following questions.

  • How does our software perform in the field? (by utilizing quality indices, error and usage reports, etc.)
  • How is our software actually used? (by utilizing stack and click traces, etc.)
  • How is (the usability of) our software experienced and appreciated by our end-users? (by utilizing feedback reports, etc.)

Utrecht University researches the role and utilization of software operation knowledge within software vendors: knowledge of the performance, qualilty, usage and appreciation of software in the field. Part of our research is the development of tools and models to find answers on the questions above.

Furthermore, the software operation knowledge workgroup has been created. The workgroup consists of CTOs and other technicians of Dutch software vendors, and is initiated to share experiences and research results, and to contribute to the software operation knowledge research initiative.

For more information, check the research page, find out about the workgroup or send an e-mail.
